Graduated from the Department of Human Resource Management of the St. Petersburg University of Economics and Finance with a degree in economics in 1996. Thesis: «Shadow Employment in the Market Economy» Received a master’s degree in sociology from the European University in St. Petersburg in 2001. Thesis: «The cost of compliance under conditions of redundant rules of the game. The production of legality.»

Attended the Ph. D programme at the Department of Sociology, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor from 2002 to 2009. Received a Ph.D. in sociology in 2015. Thesis: «Formative Mechanism of Social Institutions on the Example of Economic Regulation in Post-Soviet Russia».
